I think these brads or tacks are used by accordion makers only to space and hold the plates in place to allow for waxing the whole block of plates at once.
Personally , I feel my method is as good and maybe better since I don`t have to wax around the tacks. It makes for an easy smooth ,unobstructed waxing between the plates.
If you think about it the wax is less likely to flow between it and the plate to seal it as tight as if it wasn`t there. This might not be of any significance but for me it`s just another reason not to use them over.
I had in the beginning thought these tacks should be saved and reused again but all that does is create more tack holes in the block since they won`t hold good when used in the same holes.
